I EU, the batch number is a mandatory labeling element under Regulering (Ec) Ingen 1223/2009; where the package is too small, it may appear on the outer packaging only. What the code encodes varies by manufacturer — typically some combination of production date, linje, and batch sequence — and there is no universal format. That is why the online "batch code checkers" consumers use are educated guesses built from brand-by-brand databases, not an industry standard: the only party that can decode a batch code with certainty is the factory that printed it.

Hvorfor det er vigtigt for dit brand

Traceability is what turns a crisis into an incident. If a complaint, a stability problem, or a regulatory query surfaces, the batch code is what lets you recall one production run instead of your entire catalog — and prove to a retailer or authority exactly which units are affected. Marketplaces and distributors increasingly ask how your traceability works before stocking you, og "every unit carries a batch code mapped to full production records" is the answer they are looking for. Brands should also log which batches went to which channels; the code only narrows a recall if you know where the batch went.

Hvordan fabrikssiden håndterer det

Behind every code sits a batch record — the file that documents which raw material lots went in, which process parameters ran, which in-process and final QC results passed, and where the retained samples sit. Quote a batch code to a well-run factory and the whole file comes back: materialer, machines, mennesker, resultater. That linkage is the operational core of GMP kvalitetssikring, and it is why serious manufacturers can answer a traceability question in hours, not weeks. The code is one line of ink; the system behind it is the product's biography.

Ofte stillede spørgsmål

Can customers read the expiry date from a batch code?

Not directly. The batch code exists for traceability, not durability — the shelf-life job belongs to the best-before date or, for longer-life products, the period-after-opening symbol. Some manufacturers do embed the production date inside the code, which third-party checker sites try to reverse-engineer, but the format is the maker's choice and can change. If a customer or retailer needs the production date of a specific unit, the reliable route is asking the brand, which asks the factory, which reads its own code in seconds.
